Super Mario Advanced Moves and Suits
Mario has learned a lot of tricks in the last 25 years, and now has a wide repertoire of advanced moves to use in his quest to save Princess Peach from Bowser Jr.
Wall Jump
Mario can jump against a wall then rebound off of it when you press toward the wall with the Control Pad and jump again. Once you master the timing, you can use Wall Jumps to save yourself from falling, or Wall Jump repeatedly to reach high areas.
Crouch Slide
Super Mario is too big to fit into small gaps, so he will need to use a crouch slide to squeeze through. Start a slide by either dashing then pressing down or jumping when crouching and pressing down and toward the gap.
Triple Jump
If you dash at maximum power and jump three consecutive times (starting each jump the instant you land), you will perform a special triple jump that culminates in a long-distance somersault.
Ground Pound
Jump up and press down to land hard on a block or enemy. This attack does double damage to enemies and can be used to break blocks below you and liberate their items. The Ground Pound will continue for as long as you hold the Control Pad down; you can smash through a column of blocks or knock all the loot from a Coin Block.
Incline Slide
Crouch on an incline to perform a slide that damages all foes in your path (but some can still hurt you). You can dash before you crouch to gather a little more speed or jump at the end of your slide to perform a special high jump.
Wall Slide
While falling, you can slow yourself by sliding along a wall and holding the control pad in the wall’s direction. This will also leave you poised to perform a Wall Jump with a tap of the jump button.
Gap Dash
No need to jump across every little gap in the floor. As long as you are running, Mario will dash right over gaps that are one block’s-width or less.
Mario’s Suits
Grab power-ups to change Mario into different forms with different abilities.
Super Mario
When you grab a Super Mushroom, Mario will transform into Super Mario. Super Mario can smash blocks from above or below and reverts to standard Mario instead of dying when hit.
Fire Mario
Fire Flowers transform Mario into Fire Mario, who can throw bouncing fireballs across the screen with the dash button. When you are hit in this form, you will revert to Super Mario.
Mega Mario
Rare Mega Mushrooms transform Mario into a giant who is nearly impervious to harm and capable of destroying nearly everything in his path. The more havoc you cause, the more points and 1-Ups you will earn when the effect wears off. Sadly, Mario will revert to Super Mario after only a short time.
Shell Mario
The blue Koopa shell puts a shell on Mario’s back. You will tuck into it whenever you reach a full dash, making you impervious to most enemies. But this suit isn’t merely defensive – if you get a running start before you crouch, your spinning shell will destroy enemies and blocks just like a thrown Koopa shell.
Mini Mario
Grab the Mini Mushroom to shrink to a flea-sized Mario who can fit into tight spaces, bounce on enemies’ backs, dash across water and glide for great distances after long jumps or wall jumps. Mini Mario’s stomp attack doesn’t hurt most enemies, but he can damage foes and blocks with the Ground Pound.
