Bravely Default II

Bravely Default II

Another mighty RPG hits the Nintendo Switch

If Bravely Default was the best RPG on the Nintendo 3DS, then the Nintendo Switch gives the series its chance to shine. It comes from the same studio that brought us Octopath Traveller and uses a similar mix of gorgeous 3D backgrounds and retro characters to create its own cool style.

And if it looks old-fashioned but with some modern twists, the same is true of the gameplay, which combines traditional turn-based battles with some smart defensive options.

It is the tale of a princess on the trail for four elemental stones, which, scattered around the world, are causing havoc across four distant lands. On her quest, she is joined by a mysterious sailor, a wandering scholar, and a hard-bitten mercenary, all with their own reasons to seek the stones.

This has all the signs of an epic adventure – one of the biggest and best on the Nintendo Switch!

Quick Tips

Default

Make the most of the default and brave mechanics. When you default, you can soak up damage that would normally kill you, then dish out your own supercharged attacks.

Take Two Jobs

Each character can have one primary job and one secondary job, giving you different skills and perks. Try different combinations of jobs on different characters to see what fits your play style.

Choose Your Weapons

Each weapon will have different strengths and weaknesses when used by heroes with different jobs. When you are buying or swapping weapons, watch how the stats go up and down in the preview to the right.

Prepare for Battle!

Default and Defend

Bravely Default has turn-based combat like an old RPG, but there are some big differences. Pick default when it is time to send your hero into battle, and they will go into a defensive pose and their DP will go up by one.

Mighty Moves

Each job brings its own special moves. For instance, while the Vanguard has a range of sword and shield combos, the Monk has awesome hand-to-hand attacks.

Make Magic

White and Black Mages bring spells to the party. While the White Mage’s spells focus on healing and protection, the Black Mage is all about dealing damage.

Special Abilities

Each job also has a showstopping special ability, perfect for blasting tougher enemies to kingdom come!

Bravely Attack

You can then keep defaulting in the next round, attack as normal, or spend some of the DP you have banked on getting an extra attack or magic spell this round. You can store up several attacks, then unleash them in one furious move!
